DESCRIPTION:National Order of the Arrow Annual Conference\nJuly 25-30\, 2022\nUniversity of Tennessee \nFor those of you who have never attended NOAC\, it is the premier event of the Order of the Arrow and is Scouting’s second-largest national event after the National Jamboree. The theme for NOAC 2022 is Tomorrow Begins Today. In 2022\, several thousand Arrowmen from across our nation are expected to gather at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville during the week of 25-30 July. \nAt NOAC\, you will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to “live” the words of the Scout Oath and Law each day; a renewed spirit\, pride\, and enthusiasm for Scouting and the Order of the Arrow; new ideas and new training to better serve Scouting at all levels; enhanced leadership skills for carrying out our Lodge’s work; new friendships with Arrowmen from across the country; and memories which will truly last a lifetime! You will participate in a wide variety of spirited OA shows\, sporting competitions\, ceremonial training and competitions\, camping and high-adventure promotions and training\, patch trading like you’ve never seen before\, and much\, much more. \nCurrently\, there are no quotas on each Lodge\, but as always\, we want to maximize youth participation. Our goal is to fill our bus rental with at least 50 Shenandoah Arrowmen…so please register as soon as possible to reserve your seat! \nThe cost to attend NOAC is comprised of two parts – the base event fee (food\, housing\, and activities while at the event) and contingent fee (round-trip bus transportation and SWAG). \nBASE EVENT FEE \nThe Base Event Fee is the amount that National charges the Lodge to register attendees. In order to make attending NOAC more affordable and to provide Arrowmen and their families more flexibility in making payments\, National is offering a tiered pricing system for 2022. \nEarly Bird Pricing: $575.00\nSign up and pay the total base event fee of $575 by December 12\, 2021 and you will receive the lowest rate. **This equates to a commitment to attend\, and the entire payment is NON-REFUNDABLE.** An additional contingent fee will be due later (see Contingent Fee below). \nRegular Pricing: $625.00 \nIf you sign up and pay after December 12th\, OR do not want to commit for the early bird pricing\, you will pay the regular price for the base event fee. The Lodge will charge a $100 non-refundable deposit as part of an overall payment plan. An additional contingent fee will be due later (see Contingent Fee below). \nCONTINGENT FEE \n$TBD. This fee is for contingent transportation and SWAG (patches and t-shirts; possibly neckerchiefs\, hats\, bags\, and/or water bottles) is still being determined. \nThe GOAL of the contingent leadership is to keep the final/overall cost at $1\,000.00 or less. The contingent will explore various fundraising opportunities to reduce the cost as much as possible. \nADDITIONAL DETAILS \n1. DESCRIPTION:For One Day of Service\, we will be working to collect native plant seeds for the restoration of natural areas in Virginia. Natural Heritage Staff will instruct us on how to identify and then collect the seeds.  This time of year the seed heads will be approximately waist-high\, so collection should be easy.  This is very important work because it will help with the re-establishment of native species in the work to restore natural habitats. \nOur work will occur at the Cobane Natural Area Preserve (NAP) in Stuarts Draft\, Virginia. The Cowbane Prairie NAP protects outstanding examples of wet prairies\, mesic prairies\, and calcareous spring marshes which were once common natural communities in the Shenandoah Valley. These communities have been reduced over the years by agricultural and industrial development. Eleven rare plants including queen-of-the-prairie (Filipendula Rubra)\, blue flag iris (Iris versicolor)\, and marsh-speedwell are found at the preserve. Additionally\, a reach of the South River within Cowbane Prairie NAP also provides a habitat for two watchlisted freshwater mussel species.
